Chronic bronchitis, a condition characterized by inflammation of the bronchial tubes and excessive mucus production, is often linked to long-term smoking (Olaoye et al., 2023). Smoking is the leading cause of chronic bronchitis and other chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) worldwide, and efforts to reduce smoking prevalence are essential in managing these conditions (Gaya et al., 2024). Nurses play a vital role in smoking cessation programs by providing education, counseling, and support to help individuals quit smoking and reduce their risk of developing chronic bronchitis (Abdullahi et al., 2024).
In Kano State, where smoking rates are still high and awareness of the risks associated with smoking may be limited, nurses can make a significant impact through targeted education and intervention programs. However, there is limited research evaluating the effectiveness of smoking cessation education delivered by nurses specifically in reducing chronic bronchitis cases in this region. This study seeks to assess how smoking cessation education by nurses can reduce the incidence of chronic bronchitis in Kano State.
Chronic bronchitis is a major public health issue in Nigeria, largely due to smoking. While smoking cessation programs have been shown to be effective in reducing the incidence of chronic bronchitis, there is limited research on the specific role nurses play in delivering smoking cessation education in Kano State. This study will evaluate the impact of nurse-led smoking cessation education on reducing chronic bronchitis cases in the region.
This study will focus on nurses working in healthcare facilities in Kano State and will evaluate their role in delivering smoking cessation education. Limitations may include varying levels of nurse training and inconsistent patient participation in smoking cessation programs.
